FC Retail-POS supports revenue generation on board

Fidelio Cruise’s Retail-POS system has been specially designed to support the dynamic and challenging sector of shipboard retail operations. The new software is flexible and easy to configure, and is fully integrated with purchasing and inventory systems, allowing automatic stock deduction and full inventory monitoring in real time, by both ship- and shore-based personnel.

The FC Retail-POS software is fully integrated with the company’s Ship Property Management System (SPMS) and therefore automatically monitors all financial transactions as they happen, recording the details of cruise guests’ purchases in the cash-free environment on board. The system simplifies the management of on-board retail activities, facilitates the fine-tuning of inventories and reduces the risk of human error.

FC Retail-POS has a rules-based engine for calculating discounts and special offers. A number of different promotional packages can be set up, including single-item discounts, volume-based promotions, package discounts, two-for-one promotions and sales group discount promotions.

The application is based on a range of touch screens, each of which can be customised by shore-based managers. Points of sale on different ships within a fleet can be assigned unique screens tailored to suit each individual vessel’s operation. Shoreside personnel can also configure hardware and set up tax handling systems. They can also manage events and promotions. All transaction data is available ashore at any time, providing a new and highly accurate management tool for head office staff.

Using the company’s Materials Management System (MMS), software supporting procurement and inventory management, managers ashore can establish all relevant criteria for a specific product available at retail outlets on board ship. This includes a product description, price, barcode, promotion and/or discount. All data is then transferred to the respective ships using an integrated data exchange application (IDEA) transport mechanism eliminating the risk of human error and reducing the workload for shipboard personnel.

Functionality includes:

- Guest look-up, with details of name, cabin, discount entitlement, group status, VIP status, credit limits;

- Promotions and discount handling;

- Real-time stock deduction in MMS;

- On-screen look-up of existing stock and expected deliveries, with transaction history (including other revenue centers);

- Handling of different methods of payment including guest account, crew account, credit cards, chip and pin, Gift Cards, vouchers and different currencies;

- Revenue tracking for each sales person including commission;

- Sales commission defined by products or employee group;

- Price lists available in different currencies, with appropriate tax handling;

- Screens customized to suit cruise line’s individual requirements;
